Frequently asked questions
What is Grocery Spending Tracker?
Grocery Spending Tracker helps you save money on groceries. Scan your receipts and see every item you bought, what you paid, and where you could pay less.
How is this different from a budgeting app?
Most budgeting apps see the merchant and total transaction. Grocery Spending Tracker shows you what’s inside that purchase — every item and price — so you can see where to save. It works alongside your budgeting app, not instead of it.
How do I track my grocery spending?
Create a free account and scan your grocery receipts. Each receipt is split into the items you bought, then added to your totals for the month, your all-time total, and your item, category and store history.
How does receipt scanning work?
Take a photo of a grocery receipt or upload an image or PDF. We read every line you paid for — groceries, taxes, fees, deposits and discounts — and use the date printed on the receipt. You can check the details and add them to your grocery spending history.
Can I scan grocery receipts with my phone?
Yes. Open Grocery Spending Tracker in your phone’s browser, tap scan and take a photo of your receipt. When it’s done, tap Scan another receipt to keep going.
Can I upload several receipts or PDF receipts?
Yes. You can upload receipt photos, images and PDFs, one at a time or several at once.
Is receipt scanning always perfect?
Receipts vary a lot between stores, so an item or price may occasionally be read incorrectly. Anything we’re unsure about is flagged for you to check, and you can edit any detail to keep your history accurate.
What happens if a receipt scan fails?
A failed scan never uses up one of your scans. You can try again with a clearer photo.
What does “personal price history” mean?
It means prices recorded from your own previous purchases, not a live database of every grocery price at every retailer. As you scan more receipts, the app builds a better history of what you’ve personally paid.
Can I compare grocery prices between stores?
Yes, based on your own receipts. If you’ve bought the same item at different stores, you can see what you paid at each one and your lowest price paid. The app does not collect live prices from grocery stores.
What is Grocery AI?
Grocery AI is included with Premium. Ask questions about your own grocery spending, like “Where am I overspending?”, “Which products have gone up in price the most?” or “How much could I realistically save each month?” Answers come only from your receipts, and it tells you when there isn’t enough data yet.
Can Grocery AI guarantee that I’ll save money?
No. Grocery AI can identify patterns, changes and potential savings opportunities based on your account information. Actual prices, availability, dietary requirements and buying decisions are up to you.
How many receipts can I scan?
Free includes 5 receipt scans per month, Plus includes 30, and Premium includes 90. Monthly scans reset each billing period.
What’s the difference between receipt scans and AI questions?
A receipt scan is used each time you submit a receipt to be read. AI questions are separate: Premium includes 100 Grocery AI questions per month, and asking one never uses a receipt scan.
What happens when I run out of receipt scans?
Upgrade to a bigger plan, or buy an extra scan pack: 10 scans for $1.99 or 30 for $4.99. Your monthly scans are always used first. You’re never charged automatically for extra scans.
Do extra receipt scans expire?
No. Scans you buy in a pack never expire and carry over from month to month.
How much does it cost?
Free is $0 per month, Plus is $4.99 per month, and Premium is $9.99 per month.
Do I need a credit card to try it?
No. You can start with the Free plan without entering a credit card.
Can I cancel or change my subscription?
Yes. You can upgrade, downgrade or cancel any time from the Billing page in your account.
Is my grocery spending information private?
Yes. Your receipts and spending history are tied to your account and are only visible to you.
Does Grocery Spending Tracker replace my budgeting app?
It doesn’t need to. Your budgeting app tracks where your money goes; Grocery Spending Tracker goes deeper into groceries and helps you understand what that money buys.
