How Much Does Coffee Cost in Canada?

Short answer: on October 19, 2026, a 907 g tin of No Name medium roast ground coffee at Real Canadian Superstore in British Columbia cost $15.99 at the regular online list price.

Coffee is a useful item to understand, because this week it tells a story: three competing stores priced it within two cents of each other. That almost never happens by accident.

The prices we verified in BC

Real Canadian Superstore, regular price, October 19, 2026: No Name medium roast ground coffee, 907 g, $15.99 (about $1.76 per 100 g). A name brand on the same shelf costs more: President's Choice gourmet coffee, 875 g, was on sale at $22.00, down from $24.99.

Save-On-Foods flyer, October 15 to 21, 2026: Value Priced medium roast coffee, 864 g, $15.99.

Walmart Canada flyer, same week: Folgers ground coffee, $15.97, with the size not stated in the flyer listing we checked.

What is a good deal on coffee?

Our guidance: at or below $13 for a roughly 900 g tin or bag of ground coffee is a genuine deal in the current market, and under $12 is a stock-up price. Between $14 and $16, you are at the going rate that every store is charging right now.

The caution sign: when the flyer price matches the regular price at another store, as it does this week, it is not a deal. It is the new normal wearing a flyer costume.

Why coffee prices climbed

Canada grows no coffee. Every bean is imported, mostly from South and Central America, so the price on a BC shelf starts with harvests on other continents. Poor harvests and drought in major growing regions tightened global supply, and green coffee prices climbed hard. Roasters and retailers passed those costs along in steps.

Currency matters too: coffee is traded in US dollars, so a weaker Canadian dollar raises the cost of every bag before it reaches a store. When all three big chains land within two cents on the same week, it usually means they are all working from the same higher wholesale cost.

How to pay less for coffee

Compare per 100 g, not per tin. Tins and bags range from 300 g to over 900 g, and the smaller package often looks cheaper while costing far more per cup. In our check, the gap between the store brand tin ($1.76 per 100 g) and the premium brand ($2.51 per 100 g on sale) is about 75 cents per 100 g for the same shelf.

Stock up only on a real sale, at or below the guidance above, and store it sealed and unopened. Ground coffee stales after opening no matter where you keep it, so one open tin at a time.

Watch your per-cup cost instead of the tin price. If your household brews at home for roughly a dollar a cup in beans and filters versus buying coffee out, coffee at home is still one of the best deals in your kitchen even at $15.99 a tin.
